7 Guerrilla Job Search Tips

7 Guerrilla Job Search Tips

Guerrilla Job Search
When the job market slows, whether you’re looking for seasonal work or something more permanent, it helps to employ guerrilla tactics.  What are guerrilla tactics?  Exploring every path to get to your goal and get that job!  And if you’re looking for something seasonal, the holidays are the perfect time to snag a job in manufacturing and distribution.  Candy needs to be made and gift orders need to be packaged!

Here are 7 tips to help you stand out and get that seasonal job, or something more permanent!

  1. Leverage Seasonal Trends

Take advantage of the hiring patterns that align with the seasons. For instance, industries like manufacturing, distribution, retail, hospitality, and event planning experience increased demand during certain times of the year. Tailor your job search to these trends and target companies that are likely to be hiring during specific seasons.

  2. Rely on an Agency with Large Reach

Larger, regional agencies have the network to stay in touch with more unpublished jobs.  They often have exclusive access to seasonal opportunities and can match you with the right job quickly. And if you’ve been looking for a while, the many immediate-hire openings can be a relief for your wallet and the people who have been endlessly asking if you’ve found something yet!

  3. Optimize Your Profiles

Post your resume wherever you can.  The more visible you are, the better your chances of someone finding you.  Make sure to keep track of where you have resumes posted and update them regularly with specific skills, experiences, and desires, including ‘open to seasonal work.’  Use industry-specific keywords https://www.indeed.com/career-advice/resumes-cover-letters/ats-resume-keywords so that applicant tracking systems can find you.

  4. Tell People You’re Looking

People love to help.  If you’re open to suggestions, be sure to let family, friends, and acquaintances know you’re looking and open to seasonal work.

  5. Attend Hiring Events

Be on the lookout for seasonal hiring events you can attend to meet potential employers face-to-face, showcase your skills, and learn more about the specific requirements of jobs in your industry.

  6. Engage with Industry-Specific Forums

Join online groups related to your search. Engage in discussions, share your expertise, and stay updated on industry news. This not only positions you as a knowledgeable professional but can also lead to valuable connections and job opportunities.

  7. Volunteer!

Volunteering is a great way to meet more people who may know of openings. It builds skills and experience you can use to fill holes in your resume too!
